Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
You should make sure you have financial stability and security above all else.
How I responded:
I finally realized that some people's idea of happiness is being comfortable and financially successful, but my idea of happiness is reaching my full potential through helping other people. I spent close to three years after college working at jobs that worked for the time being, but I never stopped to think where I was going. When I finally took a leap and pursued what I thought was my dream, I realized it was not. In the process, however, I found my path. That made it all worth it.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I think I was often my own obstacle. I would try out for the first day of a team's practice and not show up for the next. I thought nothing was worth doing if I wasn't good at it immediately, but that is so not the case! Practice helps you improve!
