My path in life took a while to figure out

1.
Did internship in Engineering and HATED it!
2.
Left Engineering and decided to become a teacher.
3.
My school brought in a new program called AVID.
4.
Taught and coordinated AVID; helped train other teachers and tutors.
5.
Got a job in the AVID Texas office supporting AVID teachers across the state.
6.
Found out I really liked sharing ideas and developing materials for teachers.
7.
Switched to the AVID Curriculum department to help develop curriculum for all AVID teachers.

Messages from Parents:
Use your intelligence and talents to make a lot of money.
How I responded:
The world told me that money will make you happy, that it's the measure of your success. But when I looked around, I saw a lot of really unhappy, unfulfilled rich people: Men wearing expensive suits and driving nice cars to jobs they hate, wives more concerned about how they look than what kind of person they are, and spoiled kids that think the world revolves around them. And I realized that money doesn't make you happy, what makes you happy is fulfilling the purpose for which you were created.

My dad lost his job when I was in middle school, so for a long time I didn't think we could afford college. But when I got to college, I knew that it was for a purpose, even if I didn't know exactly how it would turn out.
