I've taken a lot of twists and turns
1.
I started in the claim organization, working my way up to Claim Line Leader. I was given the opportunity to be a Loaned Executive for United Way, which helped me know I wanted to be in underwriting.
2.
I took a position as a production marketing representative, which took me down the path to learn casualty and large property account underwriting.
3.
My next role was underwriting manager for a small commercial team. I had a great leader who taught me the importance of a diverse team and the importance of developing others.
4.
I left the insurance carrier side of the business and worked for an independent agency managing commercial lines, which was valuable in helping me understand the agency side of the business.
5.
I returned to Travelers to open their business center operations. I had limited operations experience but the other experiences I had gained helped me.
6.
My next role was Regional VP in Personal Insurance where I managed a sales team. Then I transitioned to Regional President of our Northwest region.
7.
I transitioned to our Canadian Home Office as VP of Distribution. I learned the international aspects of the insurance industry and developed a strong sales team.
8.
I am currently the Regional President for our Southern Region; my experiences have been very valuable.

Messages from Family:
It will be very difficult for you to manage a successful insurance career and to be a good mother. I also heard that I did not attend and graduate from the best university and that will be an impact on my success.
How I responded:
If you are passionate about every position that you have in your career journey, you will be successful. You can achieve work-life balance best when you are pursuing something that you enjoy and that you are giving your all every day. One of the most rewarding aspects of my career is mentoring and helping others in their career, and that gives me constant energy. If you can find your passion you will be able to achieve work-life balance.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I did not have a lot of guidance in the working world after I graduated from university and I overcame this by working really hard. A few years in to my career I was fortunate enough to have some good mentors that were extremely helpful.
