I've taken a lot of twists and turns
1.
I began studying to become an electrician in senior high school. I then wanted to go to the university.
2.
I chose to study a BA in Chinese, whereas I did two years in China. Little did I know, it was impossible to find a job only knowing a tool.
3.
I then chose to study a BA in accounting, since I was interested in numbers—thinking that I could become a businessman working towards the Chinese market. Again just a dream.
4.
I finished by studying a master's in accounting and law, a program made for those wanting to become auditors. At that time, I knew what I wanted to do.
Defining Moments
How I responded to discouragement
THE NOISE
Messages from Society in general:
Auditing is boring and you are only looking at numbers all day.
How I responded:
Auditing is way more than just numbers. It's an opportunity to see the entire systems of a whole variety of entities, instead of only seeing a small part if you were to work at one of those firms. The work is very social and has a lot more content than just numbers, such as auditing the important processes.
Experiences and challenges that shaped me
I felt I was missing knowledge about auditing, since I didn't fully grasp why I was doing certain things. I spent a summer studying the auditing standards, which helped me a lot!
